TAINAN, Taiwan — December 14, 2025 — A scaffolding structure at a construction site collapsed on Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Shengli Road and Huaien Street in Tainan City’s East District, causing alarm among nearby pedestrians but resulting in no injuries, police said.

The incident occurred at around 3:56 p.m., when strong winds are believed to have struck the site, triggering a loud crash as the entire section of scaffolding gave way. Two pedestrians were reportedly walking past the construction area at the time and managed to run to safety upon noticing the collapse.

Police received reports of the accident shortly afterward and dispatched officers to the scene to secure the area. Initial findings indicated that the scaffolding fell due to strong gusts of wind. Authorities confirmed that no people or vehicles were injured or damaged as a result of the incident.

According to officials, the construction site was not operating at the time, as the contractor was on a scheduled day off and no workers were present.

Following the incident, personnel from the Tainan City Government’s Public Works Bureau and the construction company arrived to assist with clearing and safety measures. The local police precinct also deployed traffic officers to manage and divert traffic around the affected intersection to ensure public safety.

Authorities said further inspections will be conducted to assess site safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.
