Hsinchu, Taiwan – December 5, 2025

A major traffic accident involving four vehicles occurred on the northbound lanes of National Highway No. 3 in the Xiangshan area of Hsinchu on Friday evening, resulting in multiple injuries and one person losing vital signs at the scene. The crash prompted an extensive emergency response after reports indicated several individuals were trapped inside the vehicles.

According to the Hsinchu City Fire Department, the incident was reported at 6:38 p.m., triggering the activation of the major injury response mechanism. Emergency teams were immediately dispatched to the site at the 103.9-kilometer mark of the highway’s northbound section.

Firefighters arrived at 6:56 p.m. and discovered a four-vehicle collision causing heavy congestion stretching over a kilometer. Initial assessments confirmed that four individuals were trapped, including two who were unconscious. Another victim appeared to be in cardiac arrest and was listed in critical condition.

Due to the severity of the situation, reinforcements from the Zhuguang, Jinshan, and Nanliao fire brigades were deployed. Rescue progress was gradual:

  • 7:21 p.m.: Three individuals remained trapped

  • 7:36 p.m.: Trapped victims reduced to two

  • 7:40 p.m.: One victim remained trapped, suffering a severe head injury with no pulse or respiration

The final trapped victim was extricated and given immediate emergency medical treatment.

In total, the operation mobilized 9 fire trucks and 18 personnel, including teams from Chaoshan, Xiangshan, Zhongshan, Zhuguang, Jinshan, and Nanliao stations.

The National Highway Police were also called to manage traffic and maintain road safety as the investigation into the cause of the accident continues.

Authorities urged motorists to remain cautious when driving at night and to stay alert in high-speed zones.
