A routine patrol near Shandao Temple MRT Station resulted in the arrest of a 47-year-old woman wanted in a theft case, the Zhongzheng First Precinct confirmed on Saturday.
The woman, identified only by her surname Fu, was seen jaywalking near Huashan Market when officers on duty instructed her to stop. Instead of complying, she attempted to walk away, prompting police to intervene.
According to the Zhongxiao East Road Police Station, officers noticed Ms. Fu—who was wearing sunglasses, a snow hat, and Hawaiian-style clothing—crossing the intersection illegally. Her evasive response upon being approached raised further suspicion, leading officers to request additional support and verify her identity through the police network.
When questioned, Ms. Fu provided unclear statements, claiming she could not see properly and making unrelated comments referencing a public figure. Police continued with verification procedures, which took nearly 30 minutes.
Authorities later confirmed that Ms. Fu was a wanted suspect in a theft case under the jurisdiction of the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office, where she had reportedly failed to appear in court. She was placed under arrest after officers read her rights and was subsequently brought to the station for further processing. She also received a citation for jaywalking.
The Zhongzheng Police Department reminded the public that individuals who receive notices from judicial authorities must report within the designated timeframe. The department emphasized its commitment to strengthening patrols and identity checks to ensure public safety.
