Nantou–Taichung, Taiwan – November 25, 2025 – Traffic on National Highway 6 heading west from Nantou to Taichung slowed to a crawl on the 23rd due to congestion, but the situation escalated when a foreign passenger in an SUV suddenly opened the car door and jumped onto the highway. The man was seen dancing and gesturing on the road, alarming other drivers and creating a dangerous situation.

Officers from the 7th Brigade of the National Highway Traffic Police reported that although the vehicle was moving slowly, the passenger exited the car, performed erratic movements on the highway, and then returned to the SUV. No accidents or complaints from other drivers were reported, but the police confirmed that they will notify the vehicle’s owner or driver to appear for questioning and may issue fines according to the Road Traffic Act.

Authorities emphasized that unless in an emergency, any driver who suddenly brakes, stops, or slows down in a lane may face fines ranging from NT$6,000 to NT$36,000. Additionally, passengers and drivers are prohibited from loading, unloading, or picking up and dropping off individuals outside designated areas on highways and expressways, with penalties ranging from NT$600 to NT$1,200.

The police urged all road users to follow traffic regulations to ensure the safety of themselves and others on the road.
