New Taipei City, Taiwan – November 25, 2025 – A man surnamed Zhou was stopped by police yesterday afternoon in New Taipei City for riding his motorcycle against traffic on Donghe Road. Officers noticed his flustered behavior and confirmed that Zhou was a registered drug-related individual in the area.
When officers requested a saliva-based drug test, Zhou refused to comply. As a result, police issued a traffic citation, impounded his motorcycle, imposed a fine of NT$180,000, and suspended his driver’s license for two years. Authorities will also submit an application to the Keelung District Prosecutors Office for compulsory drug testing.
The Ruifang Police Precinct emphasized that driving under the influence of drugs and refusing to take a drug test are serious violations that pose significant risks to public safety. Drug use impairs judgment and reaction time, greatly increasing the likelihood of accidents. Police also noted that refusal to undergo testing does not exempt an individual from legal responsibility and can result in harsher penalties.
Officers urged the public to strictly follow traffic laws, stay away from drugs, and maintain road safety to protect themselves and others.
