Mingjian, Taiwan – November 25, 2025 – A 53-year-old man, identified by the surname Wu and known locally as “Crazy Kuan,” was found dead yesterday afternoon (November 24) in a car behind a funeral home in Mingjian Township. He sustained a gunshot wound to the heart, and a handgun was discovered beside him.

Authorities initially suspect that Wu may have taken his own life, though police and prosecutors, along with a forensic doctor, have not yet confirmed the cause. An autopsy is scheduled for November 27 to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death.

Wu was known for his significant influence in the local community and a reputation for ruthless and aggressive behavior. Reports indicate that he monopolized parts of the Zhuoshui River dredging project by requiring sand and gravel trucks to display “passes” featuring his pet pit bull, securing transportation and local project advantages. He was also implicated in violent debt collection incidents, including assaults on individuals and abductions.

In July of last year, Wu was suspected of extorting more than NT$1 million from a contractor of the Water Resources Agency. Police later raided his property in August, seizing multiple firearms, including long and short guns, and over 200 bullets. Among the weapons recovered was a KSG shotgun, notably featured in the movie The Mission.

Authorities have reviewed nearby surveillance footage and examined the scene, but the exact cause of Wu’s death remains under investigation. Wu had previously attempted self-harm while in detention and was reportedly facing health concerns, including possible cancer, which may have contributed to the incident.

The police and prosecutors are continuing their investigation, emphasizing that the autopsy will provide a clearer understanding of the circumstances.
