The Taoyuan City Government is stepping up efforts to improve public transportation with the rollout of its “TAB New Taoyuan Main Line” program, a large-scale initiative designed to make commuting more convenient, efficient, and passenger-friendly.
Under the plan, a total of 12 main bus routes will be developed. This includes five existing major lines that will undergo service improvements, particularly aimed at reducing waiting times, as well as seven new routes that will expand connectivity across the city. These new lines are designed to fill transportation gaps and introduce circular routes, allowing commuters to travel between districts without passing through the city center.
More Routes, Better Access
The expansion includes the addition of key loop routes such as northern and southern circular lines, helping ease travel across different areas of Taoyuan. During the trial period, passengers using a Taoyuan Citizen Card will be able to enjoy free rides on the newly introduced routes. Meanwhile, the existing “buy one, take one” fare discount will remain in place for current main lines.
To further strengthen connectivity, the city also plans to integrate community shuttle services, with around 100 new feeder routes expected to be added this year.
Upgraded Facilities and Smart Features
In addition to route expansion, the city is investing in both physical and digital upgrades to enhance the commuting experience. Improvements include:
- New driver uniforms for a more professional image
- Installation of solar-powered smart bus stops with e-paper displays
- Voice-assisted systems at waiting areas for better accessibility
- A next-generation real-time bus tracking system launching in June, offering more accurate arrival predictions
These enhancements aim to create a more inclusive and user-friendly environment for all passengers.
Rewards and Promotions for Riders
To encourage more people to use public transport, the city will introduce incentive programs starting in May. Passengers can join a points collection campaign by scanning QR codes onboard buses. Those who accumulate enough points will qualify for a monthly raffle featuring prizes such as gadgets, dining vouchers, home appliances, and travel packages.
Adding a fun twist, specially designed buses inspired by Mickey Mouse will also hit the streets. Riders who board these themed buses can earn double points, making the experience both enjoyable and rewarding.
A Long-Term Vision for Public Transport
Mayor Chang San-cheng emphasized that improving public transportation requires a comprehensive approach—from routes and scheduling to facilities and service quality. He noted that the introduction of themed buses also reflects the city’s effort to modernize and improve the image of its transport system.
With continuous upgrades and collaboration with transport operators, the city aims to make public buses more reliable, efficient, and appealing, encouraging residents to choose public transportation as part of their daily routine.
