NEW TAIPEI CITY, Taiwan — April 27, 2026 — A 61-year-old construction worker died after being electrocuted and falling from a residential building while carrying out rooftop work in New Taipei City on Monday morning.

Authorities said the victim, surnamed Yu, was working on the second floor of a residence along Hengke Road in Xizhi District at around 9:00 a.m. when he accidentally came into contact with a high-voltage power line. The electric shock caused him to lose balance and fall from the structure.

Police from the Xizhi Precinct and emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving the report. The victim was found unconscious and immediately transported to Tri-Service General Hospital Neihu Branch for emergency treatment.

Despite more than two hours of medical efforts, the worker was pronounced dead around noon.

Investigators have since secured the scene and are gathering evidence to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. The case has been reported to the labor authorities, and prosecutors from the Shilin District Prosecutors Office have been notified to conduct further examination and clarify the cause of death.

Officials are expected to review workplace safety conditions as part of the ongoing investigation.
