Manila, Philippines — November 26, 2025

Former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co released a new video on Wednesday, November 26, leveling fresh allegations against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos regarding the management of agricultural products, particularly rice.

In the video, Co accused powerful figures of controlling the prices of staple goods, including onions and rice, which he claims prevents congressional efforts to lower costs. “I hope now you understand why many congressional investigations, particularly on the onion issue and more importantly on the rising price of rice, seem to have no result,” Co said.

Confrontation with First Lady Liza Marcos

Co further implicated First Lady Liza Marcos in the handling of rice importers. He recounted events in 2024, claiming he had spoken with then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez to coordinate with Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco “Kiko” Tiu Laurel and former Department of Finance Secretary Ralph Recto to reduce rice tariffs. Despite the tariff reductions, Co alleged that prices did not drop after four to six months, prompting him to suggest a congressional investigation through a quinta committee hearing.

“While the quinta committee investigates this… Sec. Kiko [Tiu Laurel] suddenly stopped it after showing a confidential report. It is stated here that First Lady Liza Marcos herself is in charge of the rice importers,” Co said. He added, “According to Sec. Laurel, the First Lady would be affected if the investigation continues because of her involvement with some rice importers visiting from Vietnam.”

The video has stirred public attention, raising questions about transparency in rice importation and market control. The First Lady has not yet issued a response to the allegations, and President Marcos has also remained silent on Co’s latest claims.

This new development appears to intensify the ongoing public dispute, which already focuses on the rising prices of essential agricultural products and the effectiveness of government oversight.
