Taipei, Taiwan – February 22, 2026

A man with long hair riding a YouBike shared bicycle fled the scene after crashing into a parked vehicle in Taipei’s Nangang District, leaving behind property damage and sparking public criticism online.

According to surveillance footage, the incident occurred at around 4:00 a.m. on February 20 along Section 1, Jiuzhuang Street in Nangang District, Taipei. The man was riding a YouBike with a female passenger seated behind him when he collided with the left rear end of a yellow Honda Civic K8 that was legally parked in a roadside parking space.

The impact caused the car’s left rear tail light cover to shatter. Both riders fell to the ground. After getting up, the man reportedly said, “As long as the two of us are fine, it’s okay.” The female passenger, however, noticed the damaged tail light and asked whether they should leave a contact number for the car owner. The man allegedly replied, “It’s fine, it’s fine — let’s go,” before quickly leaving the scene with the woman.

The 26-year-old car owner, surnamed Peng, discovered the damage upon waking and reviewed his home surveillance footage. After confirming that the vehicle had been struck by a YouBike rider who fled, he uploaded the video to social media in an effort to identify the suspect. He later filed a report with the Nangang Precinct at around 3:00 p.m. the same day.

The case has drawn strong reactions online, with netizens criticizing the rider’s apparent attempt to evade responsibility.

Police confirmed that a traffic accident report has been filed. Responsibility for the incident will be analyzed by the Traffic Police Corps. Authorities stated they will request rental records from the YouBike operator on the next business day and notify the rider to appear for questioning.

The investigation is ongoing.
