Taoyuan City, Taiwan (April 28, 2026) — A 38-year-old woman died after a residential fire broke out on the second floor of a multi-unit building in Guishan District on Tuesday morning, April 28.

According to the Taoyuan Fire Department, the blaze occurred at a residential building along Xingfu 9th Street. Authorities received the emergency call at around 8:37 a.m. and immediately dispatched fire trucks, ambulances, and rescue personnel to the scene.

Victim Found Unconscious

Rescuers pulled the woman from the burning unit, but she was already in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), meaning she had no breathing or heartbeat. She was identified as the younger sister of the homeowner.

Emergency responders rushed her to Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital for treatment. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at 10:28 a.m.

Fire Quickly Engulfs Unit

Fire officials said the incident involved a five-story building with one basement level, with the fire originating from a second-floor residential unit. The apartment was completely engulfed in flames, destroying furniture, a balcony air-conditioning unit, and other belongings.

Thick smoke spread throughout the building, prompting an urgent response from firefighters, who worked continuously to contain the blaze. The fire was brought under control and fully extinguished by approximately 9:10 a.m.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage. Further details are expected following a formal fire scene examination.

Officials reminded the public to ensure proper fire safety measures at home, including regular inspection of electrical appliances and installation of smoke detectors, to prevent similar tragedies.
