A tragic incident occurred in Zhonghe District, New Taipei City, on Monday afternoon when a woman and an infant fell from a residential building, prompting an urgent response from emergency services.
Police and fire officials said the incident happened at around 4:00 p.m. at an apartment building on Minxiang Street. A woman, believed to be in her 40s, was reportedly holding her approximately one-month-old baby when both fell from an upper floor of the building.
Residents in the area reported hearing a loud impact and immediately contacted authorities. Emergency responders arrived to find the woman unconscious with impaired awareness, while the infant showed no signs of breathing or a heartbeat.
Both the woman and the baby were rushed to Far Eastern Memorial Hospital in Banqiao for emergency medical treatment. Their conditions were not immediately disclosed.
Police have sealed off the scene and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fall. Authorities said they are working to establish whether the incident was accidental or involved other circumstances, and further details will be released as the investigation continues.
