Manila, Philippines — November 26, 2025
Amid growing public calls for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to resign over alleged corruption, Vice President Sara Duterte has stated unequivocally that she is prepared to assume the presidency if the situation demands it.
“There is no question about my readiness,” Duterte said, emphasizing that her preparedness is grounded in the Philippine Constitution, which stipulates that the Vice President assumes the presidency in the event of a vacancy.
Duterte’s statement comes amid heightened political tensions, as critics continue to press for accountability regarding various corruption allegations against the current administration. While she expressed confidence in her ability to step in, Duterte stopped short of calling for the President’s resignation herself, focusing instead on her constitutional duty to be ready if needed.
Political analysts note that her comments may signal an effort to reassure the public about continuity in governance, while also positioning herself as a key figure in the nation’s leadership hierarchy.
As of now, President Marcos Jr. has not publicly responded to Duterte’s remarks.
