Kaohsiung (September 30, 2025) – A man surnamed Su in Kaohsiung, who was accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting two female employees, has had his prison sentence reduced following an appeal.
The Kaohsiung District Court initially sentenced Su to eight years in prison after finding him guilty of molestation and sexual assault on at least six occasions. However, upon appeal, the Kaohsiung High Court considered his change of plea and a settlement reached with the victims, lowering his sentence to four years and ten months.
How the Case Unfolded
In August last year, Su lured one of his employees into a warehouse under the pretense of moving items. Once inside, he assaulted her. The victim was left deeply traumatized. Another colleague, who also worked as a designer, later realized she had suffered a similar ordeal. Both women eventually shared their experiences and confirmed that Su had assaulted them on multiple occasions.
Bound by an employment contract requiring them to pay NT$200,000 if they resigned early, the women endured the abuse in silence for some time, fearing they would struggle to find work if they left. Eventually, they mustered the courage to set up a hidden camera in the store, which captured footage of Su’s assaults. With their families’ support, they reported the case to police, leading to his arrest.
Evidence and Prosecution
During the investigation by the Xiongan District Prosecutor’s Office, Su denied the accusations, claiming he had a close relationship with the employees and even took cheerful photos with them during outings.
However, prosecutors presented pinhole camera footage and message exchanges in which Su apologized to the women. Investigators concluded that Su had molested and assaulted the two victims at least six times. He was indicted on charges of sexual assault by abuse of authority and forcible molestation, with prosecutors urging the court to impose a heavy penalty.
Court Decisions
The Kaohsiung District Court, weighing the testimony of the victims and the video evidence, convicted Su and sentenced him to eight years behind bars.
Su appealed the ruling. The Kaohsiung High Court acknowledged that he had since reached a settlement with the victims, fully complied with the agreement, and that the victims themselves requested leniency. Considering these factors, the court reduced his sentence to four years and ten months.
