TAICHUNG CITY (October 16, 2025)— A violent altercation broke out in Wufeng District on Thursday afternoon, when a 23-year-old man allegedly stabbed two elderly neighbors following a dispute over noise.
According to Taichung police, the incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. inside a residential building on Zhongzheng Road. The suspect, identified only by his surname Lin, reportedly stormed into his neighbor’s home armed with a fruit knife after becoming enraged about noise disturbances.
During the confrontation, a 70-year-old man surnamed Shi sustained a stab wound to the left side of his chest, leaving him in critical condition, while a 70-year-old woman surnamed Chen suffered severe injuries to the back of her neck and forehead, resulting in heavy bleeding.
Emergency responders from the Taichung City Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene, dispatching four emergency vehicles and 11 firefighters from the Wufeng, Xinan, and Renhua detachments. The victims were rushed to Asia University Hospital, where they remain under intensive care.
Hospital officials said Mr. Shi’s injuries caused internal bleeding and possible lung complications, placing him in a life-threatening condition, while Ms. Chen continues to receive treatment for her multiple stab wounds.
Police officers apprehended Lin at the scene and took him into custody for questioning. Initial investigations suggest that he acted out of anger over persistent noise from his neighbors. Authorities are now conducting a full investigation to determine if other factors contributed to the attack.
The crime scene was reportedly covered in blood, shocking residents in the usually quiet neighborhood. Police said Lin will likely face charges of attempted murder and serious physical injury once the investigation concludes.
