A drinking dispute at a popular outdoor bar in Taichung’s Tiger City Mall escalated into a physical altercation early this morning, drawing attention from nearby patrons and prompting police intervention.

According to reports, a couple and a female colleague had gone to the outdoor bar to enjoy drinks together. The group, consisting of 40-year-old Lin, his 42-year-old girlfriend Chen, and Chen’s 23-year-old coworker, were socializing and drinking throughout the night. However, a disagreement over who should pay more for the bill triggered a heated argument. Both parties argued that the other had consumed more and therefore should cover a larger share of the expense.

The verbal dispute quickly turned physical, with Lin and the female coworker pushing and pulling each other in the crowded outdoor area. Nearby patrons were alarmed by the altercation, leading someone to alert authorities.

Police arrived on the scene and immediately intervened, restraining the individuals involved. Lin was handcuffed after being subdued on the ground, while Chen pleaded with officers, claiming she was intoxicated. All three individuals were taken to the police station for further questioning.

Following the investigation, authorities determined that Lin and the female coworker were suspected of committing assault. Both have been referred to the Taichung District Prosecutors’ Office for further legal proceedings.

The incident highlights how disputes over payment, even among friends or colleagues, can escalate quickly, particularly when alcohol is involved, and underscores the importance of public safety measures in crowded entertainment areas.
