Changhua, Taiwan (December 10, 2025)— A local court has handed down a sentence in a high-profile case involving a public indecency incident at a Changhua chain store earlier this year.
In February 2025, a couple in their 30s were reported for engaging in lewd behavior in the underground parking lot of a popular mall. According to police reports, the pair used their car for sexual acts with the trunk open, making them visible to passersby. The incident was captured on video and circulated online, prompting the mall management to report it to authorities.
Police investigation traced the video to the couple. The Changhua District Court recently delivered its verdict: the husband, surnamed Lin, was convicted of public indecency and sentenced to 20 days of detention, which may be commuted to a fine of NT$20,000. His wife was not prosecuted. Both parties have the right to appeal.
Court documents indicate that on February 23, 2025, at around 10:00 p.m., Lin and his spouse exposed themselves in the mall’s underground parking lot. Lin allegedly removed his clothing and positioned himself in the open trunk in a kneeling posture, moving in a manner that suggested sexual activity. While no actual intercourse occurred, witnesses confirmed the actions were explicit enough to be considered lewd.
The judge noted that Lin’s behavior, conducted in a public space accessible to anyone, violated social norms and public decency. However, the court considered his admission of guilt, cooperative attitude, prior driving-under-the-influence record, and financial circumstances in determining the sentence.
