Taoyuan City, Taiwan — December 17, 2025
A 54-year-old man from Taoyuan’s Guishan District has been formally indicted on murder charges after fatally attacking his roommate following a drunken argument in May, authorities reported. The case will be tried in a court under the National Judges Act.
Investigations revealed that the suspect, surnamed Huang, and the victim, surnamed Zhang, were employees of a local construction staffing company and shared a dormitory on Shanying Road in Guishan. On the evening of May 26, the two men became involved in a dispute while intoxicated, escalating their argument from their second-floor room down to the first floor. Dormitory management intervened and reassigned Huang to a separate room to prevent further conflict.
Despite the intervention, Huang remained angry. Around 11:00 p.m. that night, he concealed a 33-centimeter fruit knife in his jacket pocket and grabbed an empty rice wine bottle before approaching Zhang’s room. When Zhang got up from his bed, Huang struck him on the head with the bottle and then stabbed him in the abdomen with the knife, causing severe internal injuries.
After the attack, Huang went downstairs, alerted the dormitory manager, and reportedly exclaimed, “I killed someone.” The manager checked on the scene and called authorities. Huang surrendered to the police upon their arrival.
Zhang was immediately transported to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery, but succumbed on May 29 to complications from intestinal ischemic necrosis and sepsis.
The Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office has completed its investigation and indicted Huang on charges of murder. The case will proceed to trial, with proceedings conducted under the National Judges Act.
