Taipei, Taiwan — December 7, 2025

This morning, under the influence of strong radiative cooling, temperatures in the plains of Taiwan remained low, with Hsinchu’s Guanxi Township recording 11.0°C and Miaoli’s Touwu Township at 11.5°C. Other lowland areas reported temperatures ranging from 12°C to 16°C, marking a cool start to the day.

According to Wu Derong, adjunct associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University, the latest European Model (ECMWF) simulation predicts sunny and stable weather across the island today, with daytime temperatures rising to comfortable levels. Morning and evening temperatures are expected to remain cool, while occasional light rain may occur in eastern Taiwan. Temperature ranges for the day are forecasted as follows: 16–27°C in northern Taiwan, 12–30°C in central Taiwan, 13–30°C in the south, and 15–28°C in the east.

Starting tomorrow (December 8) and continuing into Tuesday (December 9), the northeast monsoon will strengthen, bringing cooler weather to northern Taiwan and localized brief showers in northern and eastern regions. Central and southern Taiwan will enjoy comfortable daytime temperatures, with cool mornings and evenings. Rainfall in the north and east is expected to taper off by the afternoon of December 9.

Weather conditions will improve midweek, with mostly sunny skies on Wednesday and Thursday (December 10–11), occasional brief showers in eastern Taiwan, and temperatures continuing to rise. On Friday (December 12), a slight increase in moisture along windward sides may cause brief showers along the north coast and eastern regions.

Wu Derong also highlighted that the strongest cold air mass of the winter is forecast to move southward starting Saturday evening (December 13) and persist until Monday (December 15). This “continental cold air mass” could lower minimum temperatures in the plains below 10°C, with Taipei potentially experiencing temperatures at or below 14°C. He cautioned that weather models are subject to adjustments and variations between countries, making continuous monitoring necessary.

Residents are advised to prepare for cooler temperatures, especially in northern and eastern Taiwan, and to stay updated on the latest forecasts as the strong winter cold front approaches.
