Tainan, Taiwan — November 14, 2025

A major factory fire erupted in Zhongrong Village, Anding District, Tainan City at around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, prompting a large-scale emergency response. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 6:00 p.m., and the fire was officially extinguished at 8:12 p.m.

Although the flames were put out, thick plumes of smoke continued to drift across nearby areas after winds shifted from north to northeast. This caused air pollution concerns to intensify throughout the evening.

Air Quality Alerts Expand to 27 Districts

The Tainan City Environmental Protection Bureau initially issued warnings for four areas—Anding, Xinshi, Yongkang, and Annan. However, as wind conditions changed, the alert zone expanded significantly.

By 8:25 p.m., a total of 27 districts across Tainan and Kaohsiung were affected, including:

  • 7 districts in Tainan: Anding, Xinshi, Yongkang, Annan, East District, Rende, and Guiren

  • 7 additional districts in Kaohsiung: Alian, Luzhu, Gangshan, Hunei, Yanchao, Qiaotou, Dashe

  • 13 newly added districts, including Qieding District in Kaohsiung

Authorities urged residents in all affected areas to stay indoors, keep windows closed, and wear masks if they need to go outside due to the compromised air quality.

No Injuries Reported

The fire broke out at a wastewater treatment engineering facility, engulfing portions of the factory in flames. Fortunately, fire officials confirmed that no individuals were trapped or injured.

Environmental officials are continuing to monitor the spread of smoke and assess the impact on air quality through the night.
