Taichung, Taiwan — November 28, 2025
A 23-year-old woman surnamed Xia has been indicted by the Taichung District Prosecutors Office for the murder of her newborn son, who she allegedly pushed from the window of her 11th-floor apartment in Taiping District last year.
The tragic incident occurred at around 3 a.m. on November 28, 2024. Xia had just given birth to a full-term baby boy in her room. Following an argument with the baby’s biological father, Xia reportedly wrapped the infant, who was breathing and showing signs of life, in a blanket and placed him on the window frame before pushing him out. The baby fell into a community flowerbed below and was rushed to the hospital by his godparents. Despite emergency treatment, the newborn died from multiple fractures, bleeding, and organ damage.
Investigation Reveals Intentional Act
Initially, authorities considered the fall an accident. However, hospital staff noticed the severity and nature of the injuries and alerted the Taichung City Social Affairs Bureau. A detailed investigation revealed the act was deliberate.
Police further reported that Xia and the baby’s father, Mr. Zhuang, had previously dated. Xia gave birth to their first child, a daughter, in September 2023, and the couple separated in March 2024. Xia was already pregnant at the time of their breakup. On the morning of the incident, anger over an argument with Zhuang allegedly led Xia to commit the fatal act against her newborn.
The Taichung District Prosecutors Office formally charged Xia with murder, citing the use of domestic violence. The case remains under judicial review.
This incident has drawn attention to the dangers of domestic conflicts and the importance of support systems for new mothers, highlighting the tragic consequences when such situations escalate.
