Taichung City — March 31, 2026

A 66-year-old construction worker died after collapsing while working on a scaffold at a construction site in Taichung City on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred near Chenping Road and Rongde Street in the Beitun District at around 4:00 p.m. The worker, identified by his surname Wu, reportedly lost consciousness while performing tasks on scaffolding approximately six stories high.

Fellow workers at the site immediately noticed the situation and alerted emergency services. The Taichung City Fire Bureau received the report at 3:56 p.m. and dispatched rescue personnel from the Siping unit to the scene.

Upon arrival, responders determined that additional equipment was needed to safely bring the worker down. A ladder truck was deployed to assist in transporting Wu from the elevated scaffold to the ground level.

However, by the time he was brought down, Wu had already lost signs of breathing and heartbeat. Emergency responders administered first aid before rushing him to a nearby hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities said the exact cause of death has yet to be determined and will be clarified through further examination by prosecutors.
