The Taal Volcano experienced three minor eruptions on Sunday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs reported that the first phreatic eruption occurred at 2:55 a.m., followed by two phreatomagmatic eruptions at 8:13 a.m. and 8:20 a.m.
Phreatomagmatic eruptions happen when magma interacts with water in the volcano’s crater, while phreatic eruptions result from steam explosions caused by magma heating soil or surface water.
Observations from Phivolcs’ infrared and thermal cameras showed the emission of a large ash plume, reaching heights between 1,200 and 2,100 meters above the crater. Authorities continue to monitor the volcano closely and advise residents to remain alert.
