A father collapsed to his knees in grief after seeing the lifeless body of his son, who allegedly fell from the Fernando Poe Jr. Station of the Light Rail Transit Authority Line 1 (LRT-1) on Wednesday morning.
According to witnesses, commuters were startled when something fell from the station. One of the witnesses, a barker identified as Maria Theresa Vijar, said she initially thought a piece of clothing had been thrown down. Moments later, she realized it was a young male student, based on the identification card found on the victim.
The victim’s father later arrived at the scene and was overcome with emotion upon confirming his son’s identity. “Graduating na siya ngayon. Wala siyang problema sa grades. Kakausap ko lang siya kanina at siya pa ang nagbukas ng gate para sa akin, (” He is about to graduate. He had no problems with his grades. I spoke to him earlier, and he was the one who opened the gate for me”), the father said through tears.

Shortly afterward, the victim’s mother, who was identified as a lawyer, arrived at the scene. She reportedly lost consciousness due to shock and was immediately assisted by emergency medical personnel.
Authorities quickly responded and temporarily secured the area to allow for an investigation. The management of LRT-1 and local police have yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the incident, as inquiries continue to determine the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.
Officials expressed their condolences to the bereaved family and appealed to the public to respect their privacy while the investigation is ongoing.
