Taipei, Taiwan — November 17, 2025

The most intense northeasterly monsoon of the season is expected to sweep across Taiwan beginning Monday, bringing a significant drop in temperatures and increased rainfall, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA). Northern Taiwan and Yilan are forecast to see temperatures fall to around 19°C on Monday, with even cooler conditions expected from Tuesday through Thursday.

CWA forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan said the upcoming monsoon surge will dominate Taiwan’s weather pattern until Friday, marking it as the strongest northeasterly system since autumn began. The coldest period is expected from Tuesday to Thursday morning, when temperatures in northern regions, northeastern counties, and areas north of Tainan may drop to 15–16°C, with some open areas reaching lows near 13°C.

Chang noted that while temperatures may rise slightly during the daytime on Thursday and Friday, a more noticeable warm-up is not expected until Saturday when the monsoon weakens.

Rainfall and Wind Conditions

Rainfall will be most notable Monday and Tuesday, especially in Keelung’s north coast, Greater Taipei’s mountainous areas, and Yilan, where extended periods of rain and occasional heavy downpours are possible.

  • North of Taoyuan: Higher chance of showers, with brief rainfall expected in Hsinchu, Miaoli, and Hualien.

  • Taitung, Hengchun Peninsula, and central/southern mountains: Scattered showers expected.

  • Central & southern lowlands: Mostly cloudy to sunny.

By Wednesday, moisture levels will decrease, resulting in occasional showers in northern Taiwan, Yilan, and Hualien, with isolated rainfall in Taitung and the Hengchun Peninsula. From Thursday through next Sunday (Nov. 23), most of Taiwan will see clearer conditions aside from brief showers in Keelung, northern coastal areas, eastern Taiwan, and the mountains of Greater Taipei.

Chang also cautioned that strong winds will accompany the monsoon beginning Monday afternoon. Regions north of Tainan, the Keelung north coast, the Hengchun Peninsula, and offshore islands may experience sustained winds reaching level 6, with gusts exceeding level 8. Some inland areas may also encounter significant gusts.
