Taipei, Taiwan — October 31, 2025
Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan has arrived in Taiwan for a working visit aimed at deepening agricultural cooperation and learning from Taiwan’s advancements in sustainable and smart farming, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) confirmed on Friday.
As chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food, and Agrarian Reform, Pangilinan is widely recognized for his advocacy of organic and sustainable agriculture. His visit, which runs from October 30 to November 4, focuses on exploring Taiwan’s modern agricultural technologies, farm management systems, and innovative practices that support both productivity and environmental sustainability.
Strengthening Bilateral Collaboration
During his stay, Pangilinan is scheduled to meet with Taiwanese government officials, legislators, and agricultural experts to discuss opportunities for cooperation between the two neighboring democracies. The discussions are expected to cover areas such as smart agriculture, semiconductor applications in farming technology, and green energy solutions that could benefit the agricultural sectors of both nations.
MOFA expressed optimism about the visit, noting that Taiwan and the Philippines share strong democratic values and complementary strengths that can serve as a foundation for deeper collaboration in food security and technology-driven agriculture.
Building on Previous Engagements
This marks Pangilinan’s second visit to Taiwan this year. He previously traveled to Taipei in August at the invitation of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD), a regional organization that includes Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) among its members.
His return visit underscores the Philippines’ growing interest in Taiwan’s agricultural innovations and reflects the broader goal of enhancing regional cooperation in sustainable food production and rural development.
