The number of aftershocks following the powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Cebu has now reached 848, according to monitoring agencies.

Of these, 213 tremors were accurately plotted after being detected by at least two seismic stations, while four were strong enough to be felt by residents. The aftershocks varied in strength, ranging from magnitude 1.4 to 4.8.

Experts warned that the series of tremors could continue in the coming days. The earthquake, traced to a shallow offshore source northeast of Cebu, was widely felt across the Visayas and even reached parts of Southern Luzon.

Reports confirmed that the shaking was also experienced in provinces such as Camarines Sur, Albay, and Sorsogon.

Authorities clarified that the incident was purely tectonic in nature and unrelated to any nearby volcanic activity.
