TAIPEI, Taiwan — November 10, 2025
As Typhoon Fung-wong draws closer to Taiwan, weather conditions across the northern region have started to worsen, bringing stronger winds and heavier rainfall.
According to the Central Weather Administration (CWA), the combined effects of the typhoon’s outer circulation and the northeast monsoon have triggered intermittent downpours since early Monday morning, particularly in Yangmingshan and surrounding mountainous areas. Gusts in higher elevations have reached level 8 on the Beaufort scale, prompting officials to warn the public of potential hazards caused by strong winds and sudden rain showers.
Wind and Rain Intensify in Taipei
In Taipei’s Chinese Culture University area, students were seen walking with umbrellas amid gusty winds and persistent rain. Several umbrellas were flipped inside out by the force of the wind, a clear indication of the increasing intensity of the weather system as Typhoon Fung-wong moves closer to the island.
Meteorologists report that the typhoon’s outer bands are already affecting northern and northeastern Taiwan, where rainfall is expected to increase significantly throughout the day.
Possible Land and Sea Warnings
The CWA stated that a sea warning for Typhoon Fung-wong could be issued as early as Monday night, followed by a land warning on Tuesday (November 11) if the storm maintains its current path.
Forecasters noted that there is a possibility the typhoon’s core could pass directly across Taiwan, depending on changes in wind direction and atmospheric pressure over the next 24 hours.
Public Advisory
Authorities urge the public, especially residents in mountainous and low-lying areas, to remain alert for hazards such as falling rocks, landslides, and flooding. Those living near rivers or coastal zones are also advised to take precautionary measures and stay updated on official bulletins.
The Central Weather Administration emphasized that northern and northeastern Taiwan will continue to experience strong gusts and heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours as Typhoon Fung-wong moves closer to land.
