New Taipei City welcomed the holiday season in full splendor as the 2025 New Taipei City Christmasland officially opened on the 14th, drawing massive attention with a vibrant circus-themed opening show. Mayor Hou Yu-ih took center stage dressed as a circus ringmaster, joining cheerleader Li Ya-ying and LINE FRIENDS character Cony (Bunny) in launching the city’s annual winter celebration.
As the lighting ceremony commenced, dazzling displays across the city lit up simultaneously, marking the start of a 45-day Christmas festival filled with performances, themed attractions, and festive markets—inviting residents and visitors to embrace the joyful winter atmosphere.
Mayor Hou highlighted that Christmasland has evolved into one of the world’s most recognized holiday events and a symbolic part of New Taipei’s cultural identity. This year’s collaboration with the globally popular “LINE FRIENDS & LINE FRIENDS minini,” combined with a circus carnival theme, aims to deliver a fresh and unforgettable holiday experience. The lineup includes a star-studded Christmas concert, a German-style holiday market, and various themed activities designed to make every day feel like Christmas.
The event’s footprint has also expanded. In addition to the Civic Square main stage, Christmas-themed installations and light zones now stretch across Wanping Park, Fuzhong Commercial District, Banqiao Station Plaza, and the New Taipei Banqiao Transfer Station. To ensure smooth festivities, the city government has adjusted traffic signal timing and implemented crowd control measures, encouraging attendees to use public transportation.
Yang Tsung-min, Director of the New Taipei City Tourism Bureau, noted that this year’s “Christmas Circus Opening Show” featured grand stage structures, vivid lighting, and high-level circus stunts to deliver an immersive spectacle. The surprise appearance of Li Ya-ying and Cony elevated the excitement, while the lighting of the themed Christmas tree “Happy Circus Tent” illuminated the venue and officially filled the city with holiday cheer.
With lights shining across the city and festive events lined up through the season, New Taipei City Christmasland 2025 promises to be one of the most memorable celebrations yet.
