A minor phreatomagmatic eruption occurred at the Main Crater of Taal Volcano at 5:30 p.m. today (October 25, 2025), according to a report from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The event was captured through time-lapse footage from the Main Crater IP camera and thermal imaging systems, showing steam-driven plumes rising approximately 1,200 meters above the crater. The brief eruption was caused by magma and water interaction, a common phenomenon during periods of low-level volcanic unrest.
PHIVOLCS confirmed that Alert Level 1 (Abnormal) remains in effect over Taal Volcano, which means that the volcano is currently in an abnormal condition and there is no imminent eruption threat. However, the public is reminded that sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal volcanic gas emissions can still occur in the Taal Volcano Island (TVI).
Authorities reiterated that entry into Taal Volcano Island, the Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ), remains strictly prohibited, and communities around the Taal Lake shore are advised to stay alert for possible volcanic activity and to monitor official updates.
PHIVOLCS continues to closely monitor the volcano’s condition and advises the public to rely only on information released by official sources.
