MIAOLI CITY (October 3, 2025)— A tragic stabbing incident shocked Miaoli City yesterday afternoon when a 48-year-old man, identified as Qiu Mingzhi, allegedly went on a random knife attack along Sheliao Street, leaving one young girl dead and two others injured.

Authorities said the victims include two elementary school students—an 11-year-old girl surnamed Xu, and another girl surnamed Ding—both from Jiangong Elementary School, as well as a 50-year-old man surnamed Lin, who sustained serious injuries while trying to help.

According to security footage from a nearby convenience store, Qiu was seen circling Sheliao Street and Changan Avenue around 3:00 p.m. on a bicycle before spotting the first victim. When the girl surnamed Xu appeared alone, Qiu reportedly stopped, approached her from behind, and stabbed her multiple times in the face and neck area.

Despite her injuries, Xu managed to run toward a convenience store seeking help. Witness Lin, who was at the counter, rushed to assist her and attempted to call the police. Qiu then followed on his bicycle and attacked Lin, stabbing him in the chest and back.

In the chaos that followed, Qiu turned his attention to a group of schoolchildren standing nearby, waiting to cross the street. He then attacked another student, an 11-year-old girl surnamed Ding, stabbing her in the chest before being subdued by bystanders and police.

Emergency responders rushed all victims to the hospital, where Xu was later pronounced dead. Ding and Lin remain under medical treatment.

Miaoli police have since taken Qiu into custody. Authorities revealed that Qiu has a history of mental health issues and are now investigating whether his condition contributed to the violent attack.

Local officials and school representatives have expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, pledging psychological support for affected students and families. The community has been urged to remain vigilant while the investigation continues.
