MIAOLI, Taiwan — January 10, 2026

A man surnamed Luo, previously imprisoned for selling Schedule III drugs, has been sentenced to 3 years and 10 months in prison after resuming illegal drug sales following his release.

Incident Details

According to the court ruling, in October 2024, Luo sold a pack of “rainbow cigarettes” containing the Schedule III substance α-pyrrolidinyl benzyl ketone to a man surnamed Zhang for NT$2,500 at a car wash in the morning around 6 a.m. Each pack contained 18 cigarettes, and Luo admitted that he earned approximately NT$400 per sale.

Police tracked and arrested Luo shortly after the transaction. He claimed that he had purchased the drugs from another man surnamed Chen, but investigators confirmed that Chen’s case was unrelated to Luo’s activities. The court determined that Luo’s statements about the drug source did not meet the legal requirements for a reduced sentence.

Court Decision

The Miaoli District Court noted that Luo had a prior conviction for selling Schedule III drugs, including ketamine. Given that he returned to drug trafficking after serving his previous sentence, the judge concluded that his actions posed a serious threat to society. Luo was therefore sentenced to 3 years and 10 months in prison for the sale of Schedule III drugs.
