The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has placed Metro Manila under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 as Typhoon UwanPH (Fung-Wong) continues to intensify while moving closer to Luzon early Sunday morning.

As of 4:00 a.m., the eye of Typhoon Uwan was located approximately 195 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes (13.8°N, 126.0°E). The typhoon now packs maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 215 km/h, and a central pressure of 940 hPa, moving west-northwestward at 35 km/h.

PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 8 warns that Signal No. 3 is in effect over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, parts of Bicol Region, and Eastern Visayas, indicating storm-force winds of 89 to 117 km/h expected within 18 hours. These winds may cause moderate to significant damage to structures, trees, and power lines.

Meanwhile, Signal No. 4 remains raised over Catanduanes, Polillo Islands, and portions of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Albay, where typhoon-force winds pose a severe threat to life and property.

PAGASA also warned of heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas of Luzon. Life-threatening storm surges exceeding 3 meters are expected along coastal communities from Cagayan to Quezon, including parts of Metro Manila and Bataan.

The center of Typhoon UwanPH is projected to make landfall in Aurora province either tonight or early Monday morning, possibly as a super typhoon, before weakening as it crosses Northern Luzon.

Sea conditions across Luzon and Visayas remain dangerous, with waves reaching up to 14 meters along eastern seaboards. Mariners are strongly advised not to venture out to sea and to seek safe harbor immediately.

Authorities urge the public to stay indoors, avoid coastal areas, and monitor official updates from PAGASA and local government units (LGUs) for evacuation and safety advisories.

The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 8:00 a.m. today.
