Manila, Philippines (November 21, 2025)— President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. assured the public that the government’s investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects will follow the evidence wherever it leads, even if it involves high-ranking officials.

The President made the statement after receiving information that the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are preparing to forward their findings to the Office of the Ombudsman. The reports involve former House Speaker Martin Romualdez and former congressman Zaldy Co, who were linked to questionable flood control implementations.

These revelations stem from a broader probe into allegedly anomalous infrastructure projects, where both Romualdez—who is a cousin of the President—and Co were reportedly implicated.

President Marcos emphasized that if the evidence warrants it, those involved may face serious charges such as plunder, violations of anti-graft laws, or indirect bribery.

He reiterated his commitment to due process, saying on a Facebook post that the Ombudsman acts based solely on evidence:
“We are confident that the Ombudsman simply follows the evidence, and wherever the evidence leads us, that is where the investigation must go.”
