President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has disclosed that the camp of former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co allegedly attempted to blackmail the government in an effort to stop the cancellation of his passport.
According to the President, Co’s lawyer approached government officials and claimed that they would refrain from releasing a video if authorities halted the process of cancelling the former lawmaker’s passport.
Marcos Jr. firmly rejected the alleged demand, stressing that he will not negotiate with individuals facing criminal allegations. “I do not negotiate with criminals,” the President stated, emphasizing that he will not bow to pressure or threats of any kind.
President: No Intimidation Will Change Government Action
The President said that even if Co’s camp releases a video containing what he described as lies or attempts to destabilize the government, it will have no impact on official actions.
“The passport cancellation will proceed,” Marcos Jr. affirmed, noting that Co is implicated in a multibillion-peso flood control corruption scandal.
Co Faces Warrant of Arrest
Zaldy Co currently has an outstanding warrant of arrest issued by the Sandiganbayan in connection with corruption charges. Marcos Jr. stressed that the government has a duty to enforce the law and ensure accountability among public officials involved in irregularities.
Malacañang added that the administration remains committed to fighting corruption and will not allow intimidation or misinformation to influence government decisions.
