Taichung City, Taiwan — November 11, 2025
A man collecting waste oil in Taichung’s busy Yizhong Street shopping district became the victim of theft after leaving his small truck unlocked. The incident happened on November 11 when he briefly stepped away from the vehicle, unintentionally giving a thief the opportunity to steal his belongings.
According to the police, the victim had parked his truck along Yizhong Street in the North District and left it unattended without locking the door. When he returned, he discovered that his shoulder bag—containing cash, a mobile phone, and earphones—was missing. The stolen items were valued at more than NT$80,000.
Suspect Seen on CCTV, Still Not Arrested
CCTV footage later showed a man dressed in black approaching the truck, reaching inside, and taking the bag. The suspect was then seen calmly walking away through a nearby alley.
Six days after the incident, the suspect remained at large, and none of the stolen valuables had been recovered. Concerned citizens eventually shared images of the suspect online to warn others about securing their belongings in crowded commercial areas.
Police Identify Suspect, Investigation Continuing
The Yucai Police Station of the Taichung City Police Department’s Second Precinct confirmed that they received the report at around 1:43 p.m. on November 11. Officers immediately reviewed nearby surveillance footage and have since identified the suspect.
Police stated that once the suspect is located and apprehended, he will be referred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office on charges of theft under the Criminal Code.
Authorities reminded the public to always secure their vehicles and personal belongings to prevent similar incidents.
