Keelung City — November 15. A man in his 30s was rescued this afternoon after stripping naked and jumping into the Tianliao River near the intersection of Yiqi Road and Xianglong Bridge. According to authorities, the man floated along the river’s surface before emergency responders arrived.
The Keelung City Fire Department received a report shortly after noon about an unclothed man who had placed his clothes on the riverbank before leaping into the water. When firefighters reached the scene, they found him calmly drifting with the current. Rescuers set up a ladder and instructed him to swim toward it. The man followed their directions, climbed the ladder, and returned to shore—still completely unclothed, drawing the attention of bystanders.
Once on land, firefighters provided the man with clothing and assessed his condition. Noting signs of unstable mental health, they transported him to Keelung Hospital under the Ministry of Health and Welfare for further evaluation.
Police interviewed the man during transport and asked why he had jumped into the river without clothes. He reportedly answered, “I wanted to take a bath.”
Authorities revealed that the same man had previously exhibited unusual behavior. Five months earlier, he had been found talking to himself near his residence, prompting police to contact his family for assistance.
