MANILA, Philippines (October 8, 2025)— Malacañang expressed full confidence that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) will remain loyal to the Constitution and the chain of command, despite alleged efforts by some groups to persuade uniformed personnel to withdraw their support from the legitimate government.
According to Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has long been aware of such attempts by small groups to incite unrest within the ranks of the military and police.
“The President has known about these supposed coup plots for quite some time,” Castro revealed, adding that there is no cause for alarm as both the AFP and PNP leadership have reaffirmed their commitment to the rule of law and constitutional order.
Castro emphasized that AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. and PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. have both publicly declared their loyalty to the Constitution and to the duly constituted authorities.
“According to General Brawner and General Nartatez, they will remain faithful to the Constitution and the chain of command. Therefore, the public has nothing to worry about,” Castro assured.
She also highlighted President Marcos’s trust in the professionalism and competence of both institutions, recognizing their vital role in maintaining national stability and peace.
Gen. Brawner earlier confirmed that some retired military officers have been attempting to influence active members of the AFP to withdraw their support from the current administration. However, he stressed that the AFP remains steadfast in its constitutional duty and will not be swayed by such efforts.
