TAIWAN (October 18, 2025)— A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck eastern Taiwan at around 10:04 a.m. on Saturday, according to data from the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
The tremor’s epicenter was pinpointed 56.9 kilometers northeast of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 14.3 kilometers beneath the surface.
Based on Taiwan’s 1-to-7 intensity scale, Hualien and Yilan Counties recorded a level 3 intensity, while residents in New Taipei City, Nantou County, Taoyuan City, Taichung City, Taipei City, and Hsinchu County felt a milder level 2 shaking.
Meanwhile, Keelung City, Miaoli County, Hsinchu City, Taitung County, Chiayi County, Changhua County, Yunlin County, and Chiayi City reported light tremors measuring level 1.
No immediate reports of damage or injuries were released following the quake, but authorities continue to monitor the region for possible aftershocks.
The CWA reminded the public to stay alert and follow official safety advisories in case of further seismic activity.
