HUALIEN, Taiwan — A magnitude 4.3 earthquake struck off the coast of Hualien County at 12:13 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The quake was felt across five counties and cities in eastern and central Taiwan.
The epicenter was located about 41.3 kilometers southeast of the Hualien County Government, in the eastern waters of Taiwan, at a depth of 31.6 kilometers.
Mild tremors were recorded in Hualien, Taitung, Yilan, Nantou, and Changhua Counties, each experiencing a maximum intensity of 1 on Taiwan’s seismic intensity scale.
No damages or casualties have been reported as of press time, and authorities said the quake posed no threat of a tsunami.
Taiwan, situated along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” experiences frequent earthquakes. Local officials continue to remind residents to remain alert and follow safety protocols during seismic activity.
