MANILA (October 5, 2025)— Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson is reportedly considering stepping down as chair of the influential Senate Blue Ribbon Committee after several colleagues expressed dissatisfaction over his leadership in recent hearings.

In a statement, Lacson said he is open to the possibility of relinquishing his position should his fellow senators—particularly those in the majority—no longer have confidence in him.

“If my colleagues, especially the majority, have lost confidence in me, then maybe stepping down is an option,” he admitted.

The Blue Ribbon Committee, known for its role in probing alleged government irregularities, has been at the center of political controversy in recent weeks. Lacson’s remark comes amid rising tensions within the chamber, with some senators reportedly questioning his approach to ongoing investigations.

Political observers note that a leadership shake-up in the committee could affect the pace and direction of key inquiries currently under way.

The Senate leadership has yet to issue an official statement regarding Lacson’s possible resignation.
