Kaohsiung, Taiwan — March 27, 2026 — A 39-year-old woman, surnamed Zhang, experienced a rollercoaster of emotions after losing over NT$60,000 while riding her scooter in Qianzhen District, only to have the full amount returned to her thanks to an honest citizen and prompt police action.
According to the Xin Jia Police Station in Fengshan District, Zhang lost the cash while traveling along Ersheng Road on the morning of March 23. Desperate, she retraced her route multiple times in search of the money but could not locate it, leaving her anxious and distraught.
Later that evening, police from Xin Jia Station called Zhang to inform her that the lost cash had been recovered. The money had been found by a woman surnamed Zhou, who voluntarily turned it in to the police station. Officers quickly reviewed CCTV footage along the route, cross-checked vehicle information, and successfully traced the scooter’s license plate to Zhang.
“When the call connected, Zhang was overwhelmed with emotion, and even the officers felt a sense of relief,” said the police station. Zhang was immediately asked to come to the station to collect the money, and she was reportedly in tears upon receiving it.
Zhang explained that the lost cash represented nearly two months’ worth of salary. “I was panicking and felt devastated after realizing the money was gone,” she said, expressing immense gratitude to both Zhou and the police for their integrity and prompt assistance.
The Xin Jia Police Station praised Zhou for her honesty, emphasizing the importance of civic-minded citizens in maintaining community trust and safety.
