Kaohsiung, Taiwan — December 6, 2025
An ordinary afternoon at a Kaohsiung playground turned disturbing for a mother and her young child after they unexpectedly witnessed an elderly couple engaged in an indecent act beneath a children’s slide. The incident occurred at the play area next to Exit 2 of the Fengshan Gymnasium parking lot.

According to the court’s ruling, the woman, surnamed Liang, arrived at the playground with her child at around 3 p.m. on August 24, 2024, when she noticed a man and woman without pants positioned under the slide. Shocked, she immediately led her child away, took photos for documentation, and called the authorities.

Police officers arrived shortly after and apprehended a 72-year-old man, surnamed Cai, and a 67-year-old woman, surnamed Chen. During questioning, Cai initially claimed that they were only lying down and chatting and denied removing their clothing. He said they had met earlier in the park and moved to the playground to rest, adding that he had given Chen NT$200 after she said she had not eaten for days.

Chen, however, admitted during the investigation that they had attempted to engage in sexual activity under the slide, although intercourse was not completed. She stated that there was genital contact despite unsuccessful attempts.

When the case was brought to the Kaohsiung District Court, both defendants later changed their statements, denying both the indecent act and the exchange of money. However, their revised testimonies were inconsistent with the photographic evidence submitted by Liang.

The judge ruled that the pair had committed public indecency in a location frequented by children and families. Cai received a sentence of 40 days of detention, while Chen was given 25 days, both of which may be converted to fines. The case remains open for appeal.
