October 21, 2025 | Kaohsiung, Taiwan – The Kaohsiung City Labor Bureau has launched an investigation after members of the public reported unsafe working conditions at a private funeral home construction site near the Kaohsiung First Funeral Home.
According to reports received this morning (October 21), four workers were seen working on scaffolding approximately nine stories high, wearing only hard hats and lacking other essential safety gear. The Labor Bureau dispatched inspectors to the scene immediately after receiving the complaint.
Following an initial on-site inspection, no additional safety deficiencies were observed. However, after reviewing a video submitted by the public, authorities confirmed that workers had not used safety harnesses or other protective equipment to prevent falls.
The employer is suspected of violating Article 6, Paragraph 1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, which requires employers to ensure adequate safety measures for workers operating at height. The Labor Inspection Department will conduct a further investigation, and if violations are confirmed, the employer could face fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$300,000.
The Labor Bureau reminded all construction companies and business entities to strictly enforce workplace safety standards and conduct regular inspections. It emphasized that all employees working at elevated heights must wear proper protective equipment, including helmets and safety belts, to prevent workplace accidents and ensure their safety.
