CANLAON CITY, Negros Island — October 12, 2025. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST) reported an ash emission event at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano early Sunday morning.
According to PHIVOLCS, time-lapse footage captured between 6:47 AM and 7:17 AM showed a series of ash emissions that produced grayish plumes rising up to 300 meters above the crater. The plumes drifted southeastward as observed by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory – Canlaon City (KVO-CC) IP camera.
Authorities emphasized that Alert Level 2 (Increased Unrest) remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, meaning the volcano is exhibiting moderate unrest and may lead to further phreatic (steam-driven) or low-level magmatic eruptions.
PHIVOLCS reminded the public to avoid entry into the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) due to the possible sudden occurrence of steam-driven explosions. Residents living near the volcano are also advised to remain vigilant for potential ashfall and to follow updates from local authorities.
Kanlaon Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines, spans the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental and is closely monitored for signs of increased volcanic activity.
