Manila, Philippines — November 13, 2025 — Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile has passed away at the age of 101, his daughter Katrina Ponce Enrile confirmed on Thursday.
According to reports, Enrile had been battling pneumonia prior to his passing and was confined in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital.
A towering figure in Philippine politics, Enrile served in various key government positions throughout his career — including Senate President, Defense Minister, and Justice Secretary — spanning several administrations. At the time of his death, he was serving as the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel under the Marcos Jr. administration.
His passing marks the end of an era for one of the country’s most influential and enduring public servants.
