A 29-year-old Indonesian man was seriously injured on the evening of January 10 after his hand became trapped in a meat grinder at a factory dormitory in Beitou District, Taipei. The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. while the worker was reportedly preparing dinner.
Emergency Response
Friends at the scene immediately assisted and called 119. Police and firefighters arrived promptly and found the man’s right hand and forearm stuck inside the machine. To save time, rescuers transported both the man and the meat grinder directly onto an ambulance, rushing him to Taipei Veterans General Hospital, where he remained conscious during transport.
Circumstances of the Accident
Authorities reported that the worker was operating the meat grinder on his own when the accident occurred. The Taipei police have notified labor authorities as part of standard procedure. Since the incident happened outside official working hours, it has been ruled not to be a workplace accident.
