Manila, Philippines — March 25, 2026

On the first day of the impeachment hearings against Vice President Sara Duterte, the House Committee on Justice formally issued subpoenas to compel the submission of her Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs) as well as records related to a reported death threat against the First Family.

The motion, authored by Joel Chua, was approved by the committee with 34 votes in favor, 1 against, and no abstentions.

The subpoenas, issued as subpoenas duces tecum, were directed to the Office of the Ombudsman, which maintains the official SALN records. They cover Duterte’s SALNs from her tenure as Mayor of Davao City (2007–2013 and 2016–2022) as well as her current SALN as Vice President (2022–2025).

In addition to financial disclosures, the committee approved, through a voice vote, a separate subpoena duces tecum directed to the National Bureau of Investigation. This order requires the agency to submit all records of its investigation regarding a viral video in which Vice President Duterte was allegedly heard issuing a death threat against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Committee Chair Gerville Luistro stated that these subpoenas are part of the process to determine whether there is probable cause to proceed with the impeachment complaint against the Vice President.

The issuance of the subpoenas underscores the committee’s commitment to a thorough review of both the Vice President’s financial disclosures and the allegations contained in the impeachment complaint.
