Manila, Philippines — March 25, 2026
The House Committee on Justice formally began hearings today, March 25, 2026, on the impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Despite the Vice President’s absence, the committee proceeded with the presentation of evidence and testimonies from the complainants.
Two separate impeachment complaints were recognized by the committee as sufficient in form and substance, citing alleged constitutional violations and abuse of power.
Vice President Duterte submitted an official response through her legal team, requesting the dismissal of the cases on the grounds of insufficient evidence.
Committee Chair Gerville Luistro emphasized that the proceedings would continue in accordance with the Constitution, regardless of the Vice President’s attendance.
The hearings mark the beginning of what is expected to be a detailed review of the allegations, with both sides given the opportunity to present their evidence and arguments.
