TAIPEI (October 23, 2025)– The upcoming three-day National Day holiday may be far from ideal for those planning outdoor activities in northern and eastern Taiwan. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued a forecast warning of wet and chilly conditions starting Friday, October 24, and lasting through next Wednesday, October 29.
According to CWA forecaster Lin Ding-yi, the northeast monsoon will continue to affect the island on Friday, bringing localized heavy to torrential rain to Greater Taipei and the northeastern region. Other areas such as Hsinchu, Miaoli, the southeast, and mountainous parts of central and southern Taiwan are also expected to experience brief showers.
Although the system may weaken slightly on Saturday (October 25), rainfall will persist in Keelung’s north coast, the northeastern region, and northern and eastern mountains, where heavy rain is still likely.
By Sunday (October 26), a stronger wave of northeast monsoon will move in, intensifying the cold and wet weather across northern and eastern Taiwan. Lin warned that this weather pattern will last until Wednesday (October 29), with ongoing heavy rainfall and dropping temperatures.
The northeast monsoon is expected to weaken by Thursday (October 30), bringing clearer skies and rising temperatures across most of Taiwan. Only the eastern coast and Hengchun Peninsula may continue to experience scattered showers.
Lin reminded the public that northern Taiwan’s low temperatures may dip to 20–21°C, while other regions could feel cooler during mornings and evenings. Citizens and travelers are advised to prepare for the cold and monitor updates from the CWA during the long holiday weekend.
